Steps to change your YouTube channel name for standard non-branded accounts

Step 1

Sign in to your YouTube account. Click on the sign-in button. Enter the email-id you used at the time of registration and your password. Continue towards your account.

Step 2

Once you have access to your channel, click on the account icon on the top right corner of the page. A drop-down menu will appear. From the menu, choose Settings.

Step 3

Once you are redirected to the settings page. Under the ‘Your YouTube channel’ heading, you will find your current YouTube name. Right below your channel name, you will find an option to ‘Edit on Google’.

Step 4

You will be redirected to a new page, where you can change your name, add a nickname, see and learn more about who all can see your name on YouTube.

Point to note

It is important to remember that you can change the name of your YouTube channel only thrice within ninety days. If you’ve already used up these three attempts within ninety days, you’ll have to wait till the period is over before being able to change to another name.

Steps to change your YouTube channel name for branded accounts

Step 1

Log-in to your account with your registered email id and password. Click on your profile picture on the top right corner of the page. A drop-down menu will appear.

Step 2

Select Settings from the drop-down menu. You will be redirected to the YouTube account settings screen. 

Step 3

Click on Edit on Google, this will take you to your About Me page.

Step 4

A pop-up window will appear on the screen. Edit your name in the textbox and save.

Point to note

A pop-up window might tell you that changing your name will change it across all Google platform. That is not true for a YouTube Brand Account. Changing your name would only change it on YouTube. Your main Google account name will remain the same.
